Cronenberg's Fly goes to the Opera
|
David Cronenberg is bringing his 1986 movie The Fly to the opera - he's adapting the sci-fi drama for the stage.
the film-maker is reuniting with his costume designer sister Denise Cronenberg and composer Howard Shore, who both worked on the movie. Spanish
tenor Placido Domingo will conduct the opera version of The Fly, which will be co-produced by the Los Angeles Opera and Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
The plan to convert the movie into opera format has long been a dream for Cronenberg, who declared in a 1993 interview, "You could actually write an opera based on The Fly. It could be sort of a one-set thing, very inexpensive."
The opera is scheduled to open in Paris in July 2008, moving on to Los Angeles in September that year.
"To be involved in this opera of The Fly is, for me, to travel back not only in time, but to another dimension", says Cronenberg. "It's a magical
reliving of a part of my life, this time playing a completely different role in the creation of a very different animal. I can't wait to see what happens".
"I always believed The Fly to be a classic opera story", said Shore. "It's a tale of love and death, true love surviving in the face of physical decay
and ultimate sacrifice. To bring this work to the opera stage has been a long-time dream".

YouTube Account Disabled
|
After uploading well over 100 clips, YouTube has finally disabled my account and removed all of my clips.
I spent a lot of time and effort and needless to say, I'm more than angry at YouTube's actions. Their method of punishment by disabling the account without a
chance of reviving it is simply moronic.
If I remember correctly, there were about 60 subsctibers to my account. For all those members - I'm sorry for YouTube's impotence. I don't see myself opening
a new account there or starting to upload all the previous videos that I collected from so many sources. You are welcome to continue visiting this website
instead.
